Your hidden superpower
You breathe around 20,000 times per day. And while you may not be conscious of each breath, that means you have 20,000 opportunities to influences every system and function within your body for better or for worse, including tissue and cell health, brain function, blood circulation, spine stability, and emotional states. With the XPT Performance Breathing® system, we teach you the techniques to turn your breath from a survival tool into a practice for lifestyle optimization.
Breathwork at XPT Studio
Just like in life outside, the way we breathe when practicing contrast therapy has a profound impact on what we get out of it. Each audio protocol at XPT Studio will guide your breathing before, during, and after your practice, depending on your desired outcome.

What’s the proper technique?
It depends. And that is the beauty of XPT Performance Breathing® system. Outside of habits like nasal breathing at rest, the way you should breathe, like the way you should practice contrast therapy, is determined by how you want to feel. Our system teaches you a variety of protocols to energize, calm down, focus, improve sleep, speed up recovery, and more.
Origin story
XPT co-founder and ocean-sport pioneer Laird Hamilton developed the XPT Performance Breathing® system originally out of a need to survive when held under water. Starting with breath holds and calming protocols, Laird ’s exploration exposed him to a variety of techniques used by cultures around the world, like Tummo (from Tibetan monks), Polynesian underwater stone carrying, Holotropic, Pranayama, Apnea, Box Breathing, and more. With the help of leading performance scientists, elements of each of these practices were used to develop a system capable of shifting the body into any desired state.
